Canucks And Avalanche Game Preview
Vancouver Canucks begin their four-game road trip in Colorado versus the Avalanche Saturday afternoon.
Chris Higgins has not traveled with the team due to a bout of the flu. In the meantime Byron Bitz has been recalled from the Chicago Wolves and joined the team in Denver.
Roberto Luongo will start in goal against the Avs. He started the December 6th game vs COL, but left 3:48 into 2nd period after taking a Gabriel Landeskog shot in the neck/throat. Cory Schnieder mopped up and shared the 6-0 shutout. Canucks have face the Avs twice this year and blanked them both times — 3-0 & 6-0.Vancouver is 11-0-2 in its last 13 games against Colorado.
David Booth will face the Avs for first time since his knee on knee collision with Kevin Porter. The 5+10 are the only penalty minutes Porter has picked up in 28 games this season. He received a four games suspension for the hit.

Jays President Paul Beeston on TEAM1040
Blue Jays President, Paul Beeston, joined Matt Sekeres and Blake Price on Friday, as the Jays brass were in town for the Vancouver Canadians second annual Hotstove Luncheon.
The C’s are the Blue Jays rookie league affiliate, and were named the Minor League Class-A Organization of the Year this past December, after winning the Northwest League Championship.
As for the big club, the Jays elected not to make a major splash in free-agency despite many thoughts they would. Despite that, Beeston promised the club would make the playoffs this coming season. Read more »
AHL: Heat Beat Americans In Overtime
All-Star defenseman Clay Wilson led the way as three of his point shots found the back of the net for the Heat in their second game in two nights in Rochester helping Abbotsford earn a 3-2 overtime win Friday night.
The first blast from Wilson was tipped in by Akim Aliu who netted his fifth goal of the season and gave the Heat a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. The second deflection was by Dustin Sylvester who lit the lamp for the ninth time this season spotting the visitors a two goal cushion before the Americans potted two of their own to tie the game at two through regulation time. In the extra frame it was Wilson striking for his eight of the season just 22 seconds into overtime.
Leland Irving made his second start in as many nights since being reassigned from Calgary and earned the game’s first star stopping 27 of 29 Amerks shots directed his way. Read more »
