Canucks Need Another Shootout To Defeat Predators

Comments Off-

Vancouver Canucks needed the sixth round of a shootout to edge the Nashville Predators 4-3 Tuesday night.

Alex Edler had the game-winner while Roberto Luongo stoned Nashville’s final shooter Colin Wilson; Luongo made 37 saves in regulation and overtime.

Byron Bitz led the Canucks with a goal and an assist while Henrik Sedin picked up two helpers in a game that saw a lot of line shuffling for Vancouver.

Canucks continue their four-game road trip Thursday in Minnesota; faceoff at 5pm on TEAM1040 and teamradio.ca.

Game Recap:

Ryan Kesler opened the scoring for the Canucks on the power play at 11:42 of the first period. Kesler PP Goal 1-0  That’s Kesler’s fifth goal in six games.

Canucks have scored the first goal in 11 straight road games.

It didn’t take for the Predators to tie up the game at one. Wilson Goal-1-1

Byron Bitz started the game on a line with Henrik Sedin and Mason Raymond– that seemed to pay-off as Bitz scored his first in a Canucks jersey. Bitz slapper goal-2-1

Just 23 seconds later Bitz made a nice pass to Daniel Sedin for his 23rd of the season. Daniel goal set up by Bitz-3-1

Vancouver took its 3-1 lead into the second period but it was all Nashville in the middle frame with goals from Sergei Kostitsyn and Mike Fisher. Those two goals came just over a minute apart.

Nothing decided in the third period as the lineup shuffling continued for the Canucks with Burrows being briefly reunited with the Twins.

For the eighth time in ten games the Vancouver Canucks have taken it to overtime or a shootout.

In OT Roberto Luongo had to be sharp after a giveaway by Kevin Bieksa.  Luongo stops Weber in OT

Off to the shootout again for Vancouver, third time in as many games. Canucks-Predators entire shootout

Alex Edler scored in the sixth round of the shootout then Luongo stopped Colin Wilson for the 4-3 victory.

Canucks head to Minnesota Thursday (5pm faceoff) then wrap-up their four-game road trip Saturday night in Calgary versus the Flames (7pm faceoff).

Canucks are now sitting second in the Western Conference at 71 points, one back of the Detroit Red Wings with a game in hand.
