The whole goaltender issue is being made way bigger than it is. And I took issue with ‘Chappy’ this morning on his defence of the media. At the best of times I find his attitude arrogant and single minded (and yes I do excersize my ability to turn off and not listen).

The media look for stories to tell and comment upon, if there isn’t one, they turn a situation into a story. If there is a story, but it’s not that strong, the media have the ability to heat things up, by pounding us with it several times a day (much like the music bizz pushes a song or artist) and it’s all about the sell. Stories only grow in stature if it is continualy told.

The team doesn’t talk about it, the folks involved don’t talk about it, and now some comments have been obtained from a peripheral person (all be it an important one), so they got jumped on and sold as drama. Anybody in Cory’s position would be concerned and frustrated, but that’s normal, it happens everyday in the work place. And if the quotes were served up in that context I think it would be more accurate instead of focussing on words like ‘disaster’, ‘trade sooner’, ‘concern’, they are just words that might appear in my vocabulary everyday.

All that aside, my only concern in the goaltender issue is; will the last goaltender standing still have that intense edge when the competition for the position has been traded or will they slump for a bit with relief it’s over. No one will know until it happens, so we’ll see.

could not have said it better. when you have 2 very good goalies and there has been talk of a trade of 1 and who says that it needs to be lou that gets traded the media will not let it go till it is done and will make many comments and the more that they can stir up the fans the better they enjoy it
