Canucks GM Mike Gillis and Assistant GM Laurence Gilman joined Pratt and Taylor in-studio Tuesday afternoon, discussing a variety of Canucks-related topics.
Among the on-ice topics Tuesday were the tight Western Conference standings, Roberto Luongo’s workload, the emergence of Ryan Kesler and Jeff Tambellini, and Cody Hodgson’ orbital bone injury.
Gillis also called out Don Taylor for Donny’s belief that Markus Naslund’s #19 should not have been retired Saturday by the Canucks. Gillis then hinted that the Canucks are considering honouring Pavel Bure in some way, although a jersey retirement likely will not take place. Ring of Honour, perhaps?
The interview ended with an overall look at the state of the NHL. Gilman, who formerly worked in Phoenix, commented on the Coyotes ongoing ownership situation, while both commented on the concussion epidemic in the league.

Only in Vancouver that we don’t retire the jersey of the best player we’ve ever had. Our first and arguably our only Superstar in the franchise’s history
We’ll probably be the only team in all of sports who will have a player in the Hall of Fame and not retire the player’s jersey…..ridonkulous…
This guy poured his heart out while he was here… he probably wanted to leave b/c he got shafted by an absentee ownership and a management that included Keenan ..ONLY Gillis and Pavel will ever know..
To put him in the ring of honour and not retire his jersey is and embarrassment, a slap in the face and reinforces why Pavel wanted to leave in the first place….Truly classlesss…
I hope the Aquilini’s see’s through all this and extend an olive branch to Pavel and show how classy the franchis really is…. Bring Back the golden child and celebrate how lucky us Canucks fans were…
Even the Canadiens realized all this and showed what a great franchise it is by mending the fence with Roy , realizing how bad the management team was at that time and honour one of their greatest ever…
Ask any fan if they would wear a Naslund jersey, even a Linden or Bure… i wonder what percentage would wear Bure’s…
Welcome the prodigal son back…
[...] Canucks general manager Mike Gillis appeared in-studio on the Pratt as well as Taylor Show on the TEAM 1040 as well as spilled the beans that “something special” is plotted for [...]
Only got to hear the tail end, but something Gillis said got my attention. Pratt asked him “whose idea was it to invite Brian Burke [to Naslund's ceremony]?”, and Gillis said Naslund did, because as the guest of honour, Naslund could invite whomever he wanted.
Anybody else remember Linden’s retirement, when Burke groused that he wasn’t invited? Does this mean that it was Linden who didn’t want him there?
Bure’s jersey should get retired. Ring of honor is doesn’t even come close to the hard work Bure has done with this Team. You think people are disconnected withBure because he left? I don’t think so. Many and I mean many people still like Bure and the only reason he left is because of poor manegement and bad ownership at the time. Canucks management and ownership team radio. Pratt and Taylor should honor the person as one the greatest Canuck to get fans and team close to the Stanley cup
