After their CFL-leading eighth regular season win of the 2012 campaign, the BC Lions have earned three weekly player awards as announced by the league this morning.
Quarterback Travis Lulay picks up Offensive Player of the Week honours after throwing for 390 yards and two TD’s in the club’s win over the Toronto Argonauts last Saturday. Lulay also had two timely runs including a 36-yard romp to ignite a Lions offence for a second consecutive week at home. The Lions pivot has thrown six touchdowns and completed 47 passes for 652 yards in his past two outings combined and extended his streak of throwing at least one TD pass to 22 games.
Shawn Gore found himself on the receiving end of three Lulay passes on Saturday and two of them were huge in the win as he turned a short swing pass into a 39-yard TD scamper in the first quarter and followed it up with a 48-yard grab from deep in the Lions end which eventually led to a TD five plays later. The big plays earned him Canadian Player of the Week kudos.
Tim Brown had a dazzling 83-yard punt return for a TD nullified by a penalty, but it didn’t wipe out a great day as the shifty running back returned five punts for 52 yards including a 25-yard jaunt and three kickoffs for another 77 yards including a 32-yarder to help spark the Lions with good field position and land himself Special Teams Player of the Week honours.
The Lions travel to Edmonton this Saturday to take on the Eskimos.
