Canucks boss Mike Gillis joined Matt Sekeres and Blake Price on Thursday afternoon, a day after firing Alain Vigneault.
Gillis reiterated much of what he said in Wednesday’s post-firing presser – he’s in no hurry to hire a new coach, rather is looking for the right man to play an up-tempo, but defensively responsible style of play.
The new coach will likely be hired before the Canucks make many roster changes, but Gillis says the Canucks core will be enough to have prospective coaches interested.
Gillis maintains that his club will get younger and bigger, pinpointing 2012 first-rounder Brendan Gaunce as a player who may step into the lineup next season and learn as he plays. Gaunce projects as a third-line centre. Gillis suggested that Canucks fans will have the patience to put up with mistakes from younger, developing players.
