Wally Buono Continues Support For ALS Society of BC

It is with great pleasure that the ALS Society of Canada announces Wally Buono as the recipient of the 2012 Mary Pollock WALK for ALS Volunteer Award.

Buono, former head coach and current VP of football operations and GM of the BC Lions Football Club, is eager to help in the fight against ALS. Last year, Buono acted as the official spokesperson for the 2011 WALK for ALS and his support carries on for the Society and the Walks this year with a $5,000 donation to the ALS Society of BC & Yukon from his “CFL Coach of the Year” prize. Heat Eliminated From AHL Playoffs By Marlies

Abbotsford lost 3-2 in OT to Toronto

The Abbotsford Heat have been eliminated from the American Hockey League playoffs after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday night.

Mike Zigomanis scored just over nine minutes in the first overtime period for the victory.

The Marlies took the best-of-seven series 4-1 and will face either Oklahoma City or San Antonio in the next round. Read more »

The BC Lions Football Club announced Wednesday that former defensive greats Nick Hebeler and Rick Klassen will be added to the BC Lions Wall of Fame during a halftime ceremony on Friday, July 6th when the club hosts the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

“We are proud and excited to welcome two of our most popular and accomplished alumni to the Wall of Fame,” said Lions president and CEO Dennis Skulsky. “As BC’s most successful professional sports franchise we owe a tremendous amount to the efforts of these men and this is a very worthy honour.”  Read more »

Kesler Out Six Months After Shoulder Surgery

Canucks forward Ryan Kesler had “successful” surgery on a torn labrum in his shoulder, the Canucks announced Tuesday, and will need six months for a full recover.

“After consultation with our team physicians following the playoffs, it was deemed that Ryan would require a procedure on his shoulder,” said President and General Manager, Mike Gillis. “We expect a full recovery and determined this procedure would best serve the team’s and Ryan’s long term goals.” Read more »

The Abbotsford Heat will need three straight wins if they are to beat the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs) in the Western Conference Semifinals after a 3-1 loss in Game 4.
