Tom Larscheid Retires

Jul. 29, 2010

TEAM1040 and Canucks colour commentator, Tom Larscheid, is retiring at the age of 70.

Tom spent 30 years as the Canucks colour commentator, bringing enthusiasm and humour to the team through thick and thin.

But the broadcasting icon will have one last night to comment on the Canucks, according to TEAM Radio's Rob Gray.

“Tom will be calling it a career after doing colour on Canucks broadcasts in five different decades and passing the torch on to Dave Tomlinson. Tom and Shorty will be doing one more game together for us – which will be the Canucks season and home opener on Saturday, October 9th against the LA Kings. We will also be doing a Tommy-day on TEAM1040 on the day before – Friday, October 8th – giving Canucks fans a chance to say thanks to the legend.”

Canucks GM Mike Gillis also weighed in on Larscheid’s retirement today.

“For over 30 years Tom Larscheid brought his unmistakable enthusiasm and passion for Canucks hockey to radio broadcasts each and every night,” said Gillis. “Throughout the careers of Stan Smyl,  Trevor Linden, Markus Naslund, Roberto Luongo, the Sedin twins and many more, Tom has been an integral part of Canucks hockey and the city of Vancouver since he first began broadcasting games in the 1970’s. We would like to thank Tom for his dedication and commitment for so many years. On behalf of our entire organization we wish Tom and his wife Lesley the very best in the future.”

Dave Tomlinson takes over from Larscheid. The North Vancouver native brings a wealth of playing experience, after a lengthy career in the NHL and Europe, and broadcasting acumen to the booth.
