TEAM 1040 SHOWS

Blake Price was born in Winnipeg and raised a Jets fan (which explains a lot), but after spending 13 of the last 17 years in Vancouver (and losing the Jets), he now considers the Canucks his hometown team.   TEAM 1040 is Blake's second tour of duty in talk radio, after spending nearly 3 years at the defunct MOJO Sports Radio.  Before that, he spent a downright chilly winter working on TV in Saskatoon, a year on Sportspage in Vancouver, and then 3 years in Toronto working for TSN. And he continues to spout off on TV, working with CTV Sports and TSN.

From North Vancouver to the NHL, Dave Tomlinson’s 15 year pro career has had it all. With the Toronto Maple Leafs and Grant Fuhr’s bruises, to the Winnipeg Jets and Teemu Selanne’s goals, to the Florida Panthers and Ed Jovanovski’s hits…Dave played with and against the greats in the sport.  Ten years of pro hockey in Europe also gave Dave another perspective on the game, and appearances with Team Canada made him proud to wear the flag. Despite loosing a few teeth, wrecking a shoulder and twisting a wrist beyond repair, Dave gained so much more, that it was worth every bump along the way.

Joined by ex-NHLer Dave Tomlinson each day during the NHL season, Blake Price now takes on the TEAM 1040 mid afternoon show, weekdays, 10am – 2pm.

10:15- Darren Dreger- TSN

  • At some point today, Colin Campbell should make a decision on Matt Cooke’s hit
  • As these hit continue to occur, it will be viewed upon a case by case scenario
  • There could be some physical fatigue for some of the players who were involved in the Olympics
  • While every team may not have a superstar, success is the key to marketability
  • A Czech team has applied for acceptance into the KHL and that could definitely be a threat the NHL
  • There’s no way the NHL would be able to stop a player from leaving for the KHL
  • But if a Czech team is allowed in the KHL that could lead to teams from Sweden or other European hot beds wanting teams
  • Headshots will be the #1 topic for the GM meetings this week- but a new tiebreaker system could be discussed as well

10:30- Jason Sobel- ESPN.com

  • He’s still of the opinion that Tiger is going to be taking a long lay-off- rumors are he has been on the range and has been working with Hank Haney- so that must mean he has a time frame in mind
  • Tough to say what the home life is like between Elign and Tiger- but at some point you have to get back to you normal everyday life and for Tiger, that includes golf
  • The square grooves are becoming even more heated. The Ping I2’s aren’t all that popular on the tour but there are still a few users
  • The first week Tiger is back will be a circus but he just wants to see him back on the course

11:40- Mark Moser- Colorado Play by Play

  • The Avalanche had to deal with some injuries last year and in the 2nd half of the season everything went down hill
  • Craig Anderson is having a fantastic season
  • The young guns on the Av’s roster are stepping up beyond anyone’s expectations
  • First year success for head coach Joe Sacco
  • Milan Hejduk returns to the roster tonight and he is a huge calming influence to the team. Huge confidence for the coaches and gives them many more options
  • You have to let the young kids learn by fire. Get in there, make a few mistakes and learn at full speed

1:15- Kelly Hrudey- HNIC

  • Concussions are as serious as people think and should never be taken lightly
  • Certain players feel that if they don’t take the opportunity to hit a guy, their coach may sit them for a while.
  • Hockey is a predatory game- there may never be a solution due to size of the players and the speed of the game
  • If the players continue not to care, why should we?
  • The Olympic break affected the goalies the most- hence why we have seen so many goalies pulled during games
  • Surprised at all the criticism towards Luongo. He’s got to be top  if not top 3
  • LA looks good coming out of the trade deadline

1:35- Rick Ball

  • Not having game day skates definitely means they are a tired bunch.
  • Could see another high scoring game tonight in Colorado
  • The Av’s a very good hockey team and getting Hejduk back improves them even more
  • A lot of credit has to be given to Vancouver for dealing with everything they have and to see where they are in the standings
  • Under the circumstances, they are doing a pretty good job
  • Kessler has been the best Canuck as of late and the rest of the team builds off it
  • Wellwood has added back a few of the lbs he lost in preseason and as a result is his playing better- if that’s what works, let him eat!
