Vancouver Whitecaps Hit Their First Win
The Whitecaps trashed Montreal over 5-0 goals. Ali Ahmed scored a goal and had an assist for the Whitecaps (1-2-3), who also had goals from Brian White, Julian Gressel, and Javain Brown.
In his debut league start, striker Simon Becher tallied two goals and an assist as the Whitecaps thrashed CF Montreal 5-0. Their teammate Ali Ahmed also contributed a goal and an assist. Ahmed’s mother and three brothers traveled from Toronto to see him make his MLS debut.
“Years have gone into creating this. He put in a lot of effort to prepare for times like these,” the Canadian midfielder, 22, added. “It is thus a really important occasion since his parents have been hoping for him to arrive for this entire time. And for him and his family, it is a really important day.”
The 23-year-olds Becher and Ahmed, who spent last season with VWFC2, the team’s development team, are also new additions to the ‘Caps roster this year. For the Whitecaps (1-2-3) on Saturday, Brian White and Julian Gressel also scored, while Javain Brown had two assists. Yohei Takaoka, the goalie, had his first clean sheet for Vancouver by facing no on-target shots.
